Robert Sabourin - Graceful Testing in Software Development

Fecha de inicio

Rob Sabourin has been managing and implementing software projects since the early 1980s.  He has worked with over one hundred different lifecycle models but he has never seen the same method used twice.

In this presentation Rob will discuss the evolution of testing as and integral part of software development.

Software quality is a ubiquitous concern.  Today we all can claim to know someone whose life actually depends on software.  Poor software quality can have consequences from trivial cosmetic issues to life threatening failure modes.

Testing as part of software engineering can help guide stakeholders in evaluating and anticipating product quality before deployment.

Rob will share insights into how testing can fit into different process models including agile and engineered approaches.  Some process models treat testing as independent of programming.

Some process models treat testing as an integral part of programming.

Rob will share how testing is evolving in multiple dimensions.  Today some testing activities are shifting left and taking place earlier. Some testing activities are shifting right and taking place later. Some testing activities feed continuous integration regression dashboards.  Increasingly testing continues as products are operating live in the production environment.

Rob will share insights into how testing can gracefully add value to products and be implemented as a desirable service.

HIgh quality products can derive from "Test driven" approaches, built in testability, fault tolerance and robust design.   The results of software testing provide an indication of quality and a guide to process improvement.
