Service-oriented enterprises and internet-scale systems constitute emerging paradigms to implement internet-based operations. However, their strength can be jeopardized by failures in services, due to changes in their technical contracts. In turn, Service Buses are increasingly being leveraged to integrate highly distributed services. The Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), and more recently the Internet Service Bus (ISB) for internet-scale and cloud-based systems, provides powerful built-in mediation capabilities which enable the integration of disparate services and applications. This paper proposes ESB-based solutions to early react to changes in Web Services technical contracts, in order to prevent invocation failures. The solutions are based on an adaptive ESB platform and on commonly supported ESB patterns, so they are likely to be applied in most ESB and ISB products.
